Terrior - Dry Creek Valley
A film focusing on terroir, seasonal change, and land stewardship in The Dry Creek AVA
The Vision
My name is Dan Quiñones, and I am a professional photographer and film producer based in Windsor, CA. I have been shooting for 17 years—11 of them professionally—specifically in the wine industry. As a third-year affiliate member of the Dry Creek Valley Winegrowers, I’ve felt a growing pull to document the valley in a way that truly centers the land. This has inspired me to personally invite you to apply to be a partner with myself and the Winegrowers of Dry Creek Valley Association in producing this documentary film—focusing on terroir, seasonal change, and land stewardship in the Dry Creek Valley AVA.
The goal of this film is to create a living, publicly accessible digital story (under 30 minutes in length) that showcases the topographical magic of the Dry Creek Valley throughout the growing season—presenting its terroir, climate, light, and layers—captured from epic vantage points through seasonal change with high-resolution cinematic cameras. The film will highlight the uniqueness of the valley from a grape-growing standpoint while weaving in a soft, human narrative with words from the vineyard owners, growers, and brands who emulate working with the land—not against it.
My commitment is to deliver quarterly content to the participating partners, as well as a shareable, festival-worthy short film by year’s end. The year-end short film will be publicly viewable and timeless. It will be titled Terroir — Dry Creek Valley. It is designed to put the valley more firmly on the map, elevating awareness of its unique sense of place and inspiring the right kind of visitors to come here, taste here, and connect more deeply with Dry Creek Valley for who she is on a natural level.
You can expect it to exceed the quality of anything else in my current portfolio across all aspects of filmmaking and photography. If we haven’t worked together, please feel free to learn more about my approach, view my portfolio, and read my client testimonials using the links below.
My Promise
Each vineyard/brand/site investing in this film will be documented four or more times across the year throughout the seasons, featuring the main stages of bud break, veraison, harvest, and post-harvest. We will capture it with:
Drone stills and drone cinematic video
Ground-level cinematic video and still photography
I’ll also conduct interviews with vineyard owners, growers, and the people who work the land, prompting talking points focusing on site-specific farming practices, the terrior, growing conditions, and stories about lived experience in the vineyards. And lastly, there will be a soot day solely deicated to capturing cinematic beauty shots of the bottles and with wine-in-glass to feature the unique wines created from these exact sites.
I will be using high resolution, cinematic cameras and an FAA certified and insured drone + pilot with approved flight plans necessary to fly in and around the valley.
Quarterly Deliverables
Each quarter after each seasonal visit, partners will receive:
An unlimited amount of retouched, high-resolution images of their site as the seasons change
A short edited video featuring B-roll and interview moments from the most recent shoots
The partners can use this content for marketing purposes however they see sit within the terms listed below.
Year-End Deliverables
At the conclusion of the project, in December I will deliver:
A public, shareable link to the completed film: Terroir — Dry Creek Valley
A high-resolution digital photo album, with the option to order fine art prints
A coordinated release day and in-person event in December, bringing together growers, wineries, families, and the community to celebrate and share the film - LIVE. I will also have Fine Art Prints from the production days which will be for sale with the intention of donating 10% of the total print sales from that day to the Winegrowers of Dry Creek Valley Non profit.
The partners featured in this film will be listed and credited, and this film will be accessible for free with world-wide viewership for years to come, adding to your legacy within the The Dry Creek Valley
